Held annually at a school in AMDSB, the Friendship Games offer elementary and secondary students with disabilities the opportunity to participate in track and field events. On Tuesday, May 19, 2015, LDSS had the honour of hosting the Friendship Games and welcomed over 170 participants from across Avon Maitland District School Board. The Friendship Games consist of both competitive and non-competitive events. Over 200 LDSS student volunteers assisted in running the games. Many students served as buddies to our participants, while others assisted in running events, or serving lunch. We express our thanks to students who came forward as volunteers, as we cannot host these games without their support. In addition, we thank West Wawanosh Mututal Insurance for their generous donation to the Friendship Games. It is a day of friendship, companionship and fun! It was a fun filled and memorable day!

On May 6, 2015 LDSS hosted our first Health and Wellness Symposium. Students spent the morning in an assembly focused on making healthy choices. In the afternoon, students elected to attended workshops based on their interests. There were a variety of workshops ranging from a focus on body image and nutrition to participatory activities such as yoga and CrossFit. Special thank you goes to Mrs. Chapman and all the community partners, for making the day a tremendous success!
